We as humans are wise enough to have these internal cues that allow us to hone into what our bodies need at any given time.  However, we also are smart enough to be able to believe the falsehoods we tell ourselves, so long as it serves our self interests.  And often times, our internal cues are merely justified by physiological responses that have been altered by our diet, circadian rhythm, mood & other variables.
